Fieldmarshal P.M. Diesel Pvt. Ltd, a Rajkot company that makes diesel engines, tractors and related engineering products under Make in India, has launched single-cylinder diesel engines of 15 HP and 18 HP. According to the company, these are the first engines in the country to be approved by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and to comply with TREM V norms. The company calls the launch an important milestone in its engineering and manufacturing journey of more than six decades.

The engines are built for compact tractors and farm machinery. The company says they combine engineering expertise, environment-friendly technology, fuel efficiency, durability and a compact build. They are fitted with an indigenously made exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system, which reduces emissions, keeps the engine running smoothly and helps meet the new TREM V emission norms.

Fieldmarshal has also applied for several national patents on this engine technology. The company says this reflects its growing focus on research and development, engineering and intellectual property in India. Built for harsh conditions and long hours of work, the engines have a rugged build, compact size, an effective cooling system and easy maintenance.

Company director Rishi Patel said, "The development of our TREM V engine platform is an important milestone in Fieldmarshal's engineering journey. For more than six decades, our focus has been on building reliable products that stand up to conditions on the ground. The launch of ARAI-approved, TREM V-compliant 15 and 18 HP single-cylinder engines, and the patent applications filed for this technology, show the growing capability of the Indian engineering sector."

The launch strengthens the company's presence in the compact tractor category through its Shridev brand. The segment of tractors below 20 HP makes up about 3 per cent of India's total tractor market, with annual sales estimated at 40,000 to 45,000 units. Fieldmarshal currently operates in this segment with Shridev tractors of 12, 15 and 18 HP.

The company aims to win a 10 to 15 per cent share of the country's below-20 HP tractor market in the next three years. It plans to launch tractors of up to 30 HP in the near term, and its long-term research and development plan includes developing tractors of up to 100 HP.

Patel said, "Our ambition is not limited to the 15 and 18 HP categories. We are building a broad framework of technology and products in engines, tractors and farm mechanisation. We are also expanding into water management solutions, clean energy and infrastructure-related equipment." He added, "Our aim is to combine Fieldmarshal's engineering heritage with new technology and products, so that we can serve next-generation customers in India and around the world."

The company began in 1963 as M/s Patel Manufacturers, with an annual capacity of just 80 diesel engines. Today it is a diversified engineering company able to make more than 1,60,000 engines a year. At its Shapar plant it has a joint production arrangement with Mahindra and Mahindra, and it has OEM relationships with large companies such as Sonalika, ACE and Kamco. A separate plant for Shridev tractors has a capacity of up to 100 tractors a day.

International expansion is an important part of the company's strategy. Its products have reached more than 60 countries, and it is developing Euro V-compliant engines for export markets. Future growth plans extend to higher-horsepower categories. The company is also developing a dedicated division for cleaning equipment for industrial, commercial, infrastructure and municipal use. Fieldmarshal P.M. Diesel Pvt. Ltd has manufacturing units in Rajkot and Shapar.
