A march against the functioning of the Election Commission will be held in Mumbai on October 4. It will start at the gate of the Crompton company in Byculla and go to the Mumbai municipal corporation, where a public meeting will be held. The march will begin at 11 am.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray said the march is against the Election Commission, so no political party's flag will be carried. According to him, the march is to save democracy and the Constitution, so everyone should carry only the tricolour.
Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray held a joint press conference against the Election Commission today. Former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and MP Sanjay Raut were also present. The march is being organised by the MNS and the Thackeray-led Sena. Irregularities in the Election Commission's functioning have caused anger across the country, and opposition parties have demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Raj Thackeray said he had taken a stand against EVMs in 2017 and met several leaders. He said this would be addressed at the march on the 4th. He also made clear that the march is not against any political party. In his words, it is against the faulty functioning of the Election Commission over the past few years. He appealed to everyone to join the march.
Raj Thackeray said the next steps after the march on the 4th would be decided later. All political parties will be invited to the march. He warned that the Election Commission will understand when people come out on the streets.
Asked about the BJP responding to the allegations against the Election Commission, Raj Thackeray took a dig at the party, saying: "Only the one who eats gets the itch. We are speaking about the Election Commission, so why is the BJP feeling troubled?"
Uddhav Thackeray sharply targeted the Election Commission's functioning and alleged irregularities in the voter lists. He appealed that the issue not be viewed merely as a matter of political win or loss. Against this backdrop, an important national-level meeting of the INDIA bloc will be held on Wednesday, September 30, where the next national strategy against the Election Commission will be discussed in detail.
Earlier, the Thackeray cousins came together at Raj Thackeray's residence, Shivtirth, and announced a joint mega march on October 4 from Byculla to the BMC headquarters in Mumbai. The announcement has heated up the political atmosphere, and the whole country is watching the march.
