Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) administration has come forward to help farmers struggling with the severe drought in the state. The corporation has ordered that one day's salary be deducted from the October pay of all its officers and employees and deposited in the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.

The General Administration Department has issued a special circular on the matter, signed by Municipal Commissioner Dr Vipin Itankar. According to the circular, the action is being taken on the basis of a government circular. The state government is running a large-scale relief campaign for drought-affected farmers. Under it, all officers and employees of the corporation had been appealed to voluntarily give one day's salary.

This time, the money will be deducted directly from salaries. Unlike earlier, the amount will not be collected by asking people for contributions. The circular says an amount equal to one day's pay will be deducted from the regular salary for October 2026. Only the remaining salary will go to the account of the officer or employee concerned.

Anyone who objects to the deduction must submit a written objection, in the format prescribed by the government, through their head of department within two days. Those who do not file an objection within the stipulated time will be taken to have no objection to the donation. Further action will then follow as per government procedure.

The Accounts and Finance Department has been directed to deposit the amount collected from across the corporation in the authorised bank account of the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. After the deposit, the receipt and the full list of donors must be submitted to the government within the stipulated time. To enable donors to get income tax benefit, their details must also be prepared before November 25, 2026.

All heads of departments, assistant commissioners and heads of offices have been told to convey the order to every officer and employee working under them and to ensure full compliance.
