Nalasopara police book four over garages blocking roads with repair vehicles

Vehicles brought for repair were being parked haphazardly on busy roads in Nalasopara West, standing on the road outside garages. This held up traffic and endangered pedestrians. Nalasopara police have now acted against such garage operators and registered separate cases against four people.

The cases have been registered for illegally occupying public roads. All four cases are separate. In the crowded Fourth Road, Shriprastha MHADA area and Sopara Station Road in Nalasopara West, several garage operators had parked vehicles on the road and set up repair shops there.

Those booked include Ruhan Hanif Memon, operator-owner of Huren Garage on Shriprastha MHADA Road; Sachin Deepak Naik, operator-owner of Vivek Auto Parts; and Irfan Mohammed Musa Ansari, operator-owner of Brito Garage on Sopara Station Road. A case has also been registered against one other person connected to them. In all, cases have been registered against four people.

The action follows persistent follow-up with the police and the municipal administration by Manoj Patil, Leader of the Opposition in the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation. He had pursued the matter with both the police and the corporation. Patil has said that although the police have begun action by registering cases, roads will not be cleared merely by filing FIRs.

Local residents had been troubled by garage operators occupying footpaths and roads. With vehicles parked on roads and footpaths, the already narrow roads saw traffic jams every day, and residents had to bear this daily. At many places, sheds had been put up directly along the roadsides, encroaching on them. Pedestrians had to walk through crowds of vehicles at great risk. Residents had voiced strong anger over the rising risk of accidents.
