A 44-year-old woman has complained to Lakadganj police in Nagpur that an acquaintance made on a matrimonial website turned into a nightmare. She alleges the accused made a private video of her and, by threatening to defame her, extorted Rs 6.50 lakh. These are the claims made in the complaint and are recorded as allegations.

According to police sources, the woman lives in the Subhash Putla area. Through the matrimonial website she got to know Mayur Ashok Talreja (39), a resident of Jaripatka. The two began talking with marriage in mind. The woman hoped to find a good life partner, but according to the complaint, the acquaintance became the cause of her distress.

It is alleged that during their conversations Talreja called the woman to a hotel to meet. There, he allegedly made a private video of her by deceit. The same video was then used to pressure and blackmail her.

According to the complaint, the woman fell into distress at the prospect of the video becoming public. Fearing for her reputation and standing in society, she came under the accused's pressure. It is alleged that Talreja exploited this situation to demand money. Afraid the video would come out and facing mounting pressure, she kept paying at different times.

According to the complaint filed with police, the woman gave the accused a total of Rs 6.50 lakh between April 1, 2026 and October 20, 2026. The sum was paid on several occasions, not in one go. Her aim was to keep the video from becoming public and to be free of the accused's pressure.

However, according to the complaint, her trouble did not end after she paid. It is alleged that despite collecting the money, the accused continued to subject her to mental and physical harassment. When she grew fed up and refused to pay any more, the accused allegedly threatened to kill her. She then became deeply worried about her safety and future.

Eventually the woman gathered courage, approached the police and filed a complaint narrating her ordeal. On receiving it, Lakadganj police registered a case against Mayur Ashok Talreja under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and began an investigation.

The woman's allegations, the money allegedly paid, the conversations between the two and aspects related to the private video will be important in the probe. Digital evidence and details of money transactions may also be useful. The allegations can be confirmed only after the investigation and court proceedings. For now, it is known that a case has been registered on the basis of the complaint.

The case is also a warning for people who use online websites and social media to find a match. It is important to verify the other person's identity and background, avoid sharing private photos or videos, and choose a public place for a first meeting.

If anyone demands money, issues threats or keeps up pressure on the basis of private photos or videos, they should contact the police instead of staying silent out of fear. Keeping messages, call records, payment receipts and other digital evidence safe can also help the investigation of a complaint.
