A Nagpur resident was cheated of Rs 8.42 lakh after being lured into investing on a fake e-commerce platform; a case has been registered at Lakadganj police station.
Nagpur: Cyber criminals have cheated a young man by promising big profits from investing on an e-commerce platform.
A link was sent to the mobile phone of Devesh Bagde, a resident of Babulban, Garoba Maidan, from a fake ID in the name of "Riya Agrawal". The link was described as belonging to an online e-commerce platform, and it was claimed that investing money there would bring good returns.
Bagde initially invested a small amount, and the fraudster paid him some profit. Seeing this, he began investing repeatedly on different dates in the hope of earning more. In all, he invested Rs 8,42,600.
But once the fraudster had the large sum, the situation turned. Bagde received no profit on his investment, nor was his principal returned. The accused then demanded a further Rs 1,20,000 from him.
Bagde realised he had been the victim of cyber fraud and filed a complaint at Lakadganj police station. According to the police, a case of cyber fraud has been registered against the holder of the Snapchat ID operating under the name "Riya Agrawal".
