MP Pratibha Dhanorkar joins Ahimsa padyatra in Chandrapur on Gandhi Jayanti

Hundreds of citizens and Congress workers walked in Chandrapur on October 2, organised by 'Gandhiji's Path' to mark Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary.

An Ahimsa padyatra was taken out in Chandrapur on October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, by 'Gandhiji Ke Raste'. MP Pratibha Dhanorkar was the chief guest. Hundreds of citizens, women and youth joined the march. All the major office-bearers and workers of the Congress also turned up in large numbers.

The padyatra began at Gandhi Chowk, passed through the main roads of the city and ended back at Gandhi Chowk. There, Ms Dhanorkar paid tribute by garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. The flag was then hoisted by her.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms Dhanorkar said, "The lessons of truth, non-violence, self-reliance and Sarvodaya that Mahatma Gandhi gave are very necessary today to keep society together. Economic equality, protection of the environment, social harmony, Gram Swarajya and the development of the last section of society, this is the real direction of the thinking of Gandhi and Vinoba. The country urgently needs to strengthen the spirit of peace, moral values and unity, and the Congress party is always committed to walking on this path."

She further said, "Through today's padyatra, we resolve to take these ideas of Gandhiji and the spirit of Sarvodaya to every household and ordinary people. Hundreds of citizens and workers took part in large numbers in this initiative and gave the padyatra unprecedented support, and I thank everyone from the heart for it."

Those present included Rajura Municipal Council president Arun Dhote, city district Congress president Shiva Rao, women's district Congress president Kunda Jenekar, Chanda Wairagade of the city district Congress, Professional Congress district president Ramakrishna Kondra, minority cell district president Sohail Raza, Sevadal district president Sachin Katyal and Leader of the House in the Municipal Corporation Surendra Adbale.

Senior Congress leaders Vinayak Bangde, Vinod Dattatraya, Subhash Gaur, K. K. Singh, Praveen Padvekar, Manish Tiwari, Shamkant There, Nisar Sheikh, Ejaz Sheikh and Sunita Govardhan were also at the event. Ishwar Gaurkar of the District Sarvodaya Mandal was present, along with corporators and other office-bearers.
