The price of the Land Rover Defender, a luxury SUV known for its off-roading ability, has come down sharply. The company has begun manufacturing the Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE in India, bringing the starting ex-showroom price to Rs 99 lakh. In some variants the price has fallen by up to Rs 34 lakh. Several features that buyers earlier had to pay for as options now come as standard.
The Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE is offered in three powertrains. The P300 petrol model costs Rs 99 lakh. It has a 2.0-litre engine producing 300 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque. The P400 has a 3.0-litre petrol engine producing 400 PS and 550 Nm. The D350 is a diesel model, also with a 3.0-litre engine, producing 350 PS and 700 Nm. These two 6-cylinder models cost Rs 1.18 crore each. All three engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The Rs 34 lakh saving works out as follows. Before local production began, the comparable CBU specification of the P400 and D350, with optional features, was priced at Rs 1.52 crore. It is now Rs 1.18 crore, a saving of Rs 34 lakh. The price of the P300 has also come down, from Rs 1.13 crore to Rs 99 lakh. It should be noted, however, that this comparison is with the price of the earlier model including selected optional features.
For off-roading, the vehicle has electronic air suspension, Terrain Response 2 and Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control. In off-road mode, ground clearance can be raised to 293 mm. The SUV can wade through water up to 900 mm deep.
The P400 and D350 come with 14-way adjustable heated and ventilated front seats, Meridian Surround Sound, a head-up display and 20-inch alloy wheels as standard. The P300 also gets a panoramic roof, Matrix LED headlamps, wireless charging and adaptive cruise control.
On colours, the P400 and D350 are available in Fuji White, Santorini Black, Tasman Blue, Carpathian Grey, Borasco Grey and Woolstone Green. The P300 is offered in four colours, including Gondwana Stone. With premium features, powerful engines and off-roading capability, the SUV could now be better value for buyers who want them.
