Jungle safari begins at Bor Tiger Reserve as Wildlife Week gets under way

Bor Tiger Reserve in Wardha started its jungle safari today, along with National Wildlife Week, which runs from October 2 to 8 with a series of events.

Wardha: Jungle safaris began at the Bor Tiger Reserve today. National Wildlife Week also got under way, and will run from October 2 to 8, with several programmes planned by the reserve during the week.

Deputy Director of the reserve Mangesh Thengdi, Assistant Conservator of Forests (core) Ashish Deshmukh, Assistant Conservator of Forests (buffer) Dattatraya Londhe and Range Forest Officer Nitin Borkar were present at the launch. Families who had come from Nagpur and other places for the safari were felicitated by the reserve. Gypsy vehicles were then flagged off towards the jungle safari track in the core area.

Among those who took the safari on the first day were Sanjay Sardar and Pravin Jain of Wardha, Vijay Patel of Gujarat, Rushikesh Nimkade, Omkar Purandare and Niraj Sathe of Nagpur, Rahul Hirnawale of Mumbai and Aniket Bhoyar of Katol. Some tourists came with their families to enjoy the safari at Bor.

After the safari was inaugurated, a cleanliness drive was held in the area. The new Bor forest range office was inaugurated by the dignitaries present, and a film on the Bor Tiger Reserve was screened. On October 3, schools will hold essay, drawing, speech and quiz competitions on wildlife for children from Classes 1 to 10. Junior and senior colleges will hold an awareness programme for students on the environment and changes in forest ecology.

On Sunday, October 4, a bird-watching programme will be held from 7.30 am to 9.30 am for schoolchildren and bird lovers. On October 5, a two-wheeler rally will go from Wardha to Bor Dam from 7 am to 9 am, and a cycle rally led by the range forest officer will go from Hingni to Bor Dam. A health check-up camp will be held the same day for officials, staff, guides, gypsy drivers and local residents.

On October 6, sports competitions will be held for students, and a photography competition has been organised for staff, guides and gypsy drivers. On October 7, there will be a workshop on developing grassland and another on women's empowerment. The last day, October 8, will have a prize distribution ceremony and cultural programmes.
