Delhi Capitals have made another major announcement ahead of the 2027 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The franchise has appointed former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra as its new spin bowling coach. The franchise made the official announcement on Tuesday, October 21.

Mishra is 43. He announced his retirement from all formats of cricket on September 4 last year. He will now work with the team's spin bowling department in the coming season. Mishra is the highest wicket-taker for Delhi Capitals in the IPL.

Mishra played most of his IPL career for Delhi Capitals. Across two separate spells, he was part of the team for a total of 10 seasons. He also began his IPL career with Delhi. After making an important contribution to the team's success as a player, he has now returned to the Delhi franchise as spin bowling coach.

With Mishra's appointment, Delhi have completely overhauled their coaching staff ahead of IPL 2027. Delhi recently made former India captain and batting great Sourav Ganguly their head coach. He has replaced Hemang Badani. The franchise has made India all-rounder great Yuvraj Singh batting and assistant coach, while Sri Lanka fast bowler Chaminda Vaas has been given charge as fast bowling coach. With this new coaching group, Delhi will go into the coming season aiming to win their first IPL title.

Amit Mishra is the only bowler to have taken three hat-tricks in IPL history. In 2008, the first season of the IPL, he took 5 wickets for 17 runs against Deccan Chargers and claimed his first hat-trick. He took hat-tricks again in 2011 and 2013, proving his skill with the ball.

Mishra made his IPL debut for Delhi Capitals in 2008. In his IPL career, he played 162 matches and took 174 wickets at an economy rate of 7.37. Besides Delhi, he has also played for Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants.

Mishra is the only bowler to have taken more than 100 IPL wickets for Delhi Capitals. He has taken 110 wickets in 103 T20 matches for Delhi, with best figures of 5 for 17. Mishra is first on the list of Delhi's leading wicket-takers, while Axar Patel is second with 78 wickets.
