India won the second ODI by 4 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method after rain ended play, and lead the five-match series 2-0.

India won the second match of the five-match ODI series against New Zealand in Wellington. India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to bowl, asking New Zealand to bat first once again. Rain delayed the start by an hour, so the match was reduced to 47 overs a side.

New Zealand were bowled out for 134 in 41 overs. In the second over, Auqib Nabi dismissed Tim Seifert for a duck. He then got the other opener, Will Young, out for 6. With the score at 23, pacer Anshul Kamboj bowled Henry Nicholls for 11.

Gurnoor Brar then troubled the New Zealand batters. On the second ball of the 20th over he dismissed wicketkeeper-batter Tom Latham for 7, and on the last ball he sent back Glenn Phillips for a duck. New Zealand were 53 for 5 when Phillips fell. Daryl Mitchell and captain Mitchell Santner then added 59 for the sixth wicket to steady the innings.

Axar Patel dismissed Mitchell, who made 55 off 104 balls with five fours and two sixes. Brar also removed Santner, who scored 31 off 38 balls with two sixes and a four. Axar dismissed Kyle Jamieson for 7 and Brar got Nathan Smith for 3. The last wicket, Blair Tickner, went to Anshul Kamboj. For India, Brar took four wickets, while Kamboj, Axar and Auqib Nabi took two each.

India needed 135 to win but made a poor start. Captain Gill was out for a duck with the score at just 4. Virat Kohli, at number three, returned after scoring 7. Rohit Sharma made 23 off 28 balls with two fours and a six. Shreyas Iyer added 30 off 46 balls, while Axar Patel was run out for 7.

Half of India's side was back in the pavilion at 86. Naman Dhir was out for 12 and Anshul Kamboj for just one run. KL Rahul stayed at the other end and made an unbeaten 26 off 38 balls with two fours and two sixes. After 26 overs India were 113 for 7 when rain returned and play could not resume. By the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method India were ahead at that point and were declared winners by 4 runs. The win puts India 2-0 up in the five-match series.
