Gondwana University has given major relief to college students in the talukas of Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts that have been declared drought-like. The university has issued an order waiving the Winter 2026 examination fees in full. The order applies to students of colleges affiliated to Gondwana University.

The order follows a decision taken at a meeting. Vice-chancellors from across the state met online under the chairmanship of Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Dada Patil. The university said it issued the order in line with the key decision taken at that meeting.

Drought-like conditions have developed in the state, and parents of students are facing a financial crunch as a result. The Higher and Technical Education Department took this seriously and decided to give relief to students in drought-hit areas. Under this directive, examination fees for all courses will be waived in the talukas of Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts that have been declared drought-like.

Colleges have been directed to return immediately the fees to students who have already paid them for the Winter 2026 examinations. In some cases, colleges may have already deposited the fees with the university. In such cases, the university administration will promptly return the amount to the colleges concerned, and the colleges will then have to pass it on to the students.

It has also been clarified that the order will apply only to colleges in those talukas where drought-like conditions have been declared.

To complete the process on time, all the colleges concerned must finish the necessary administrative and technical work before October 23, 2026. The appeal was made by Dr Naveen Parshuram Mungale, Director of the university's Board of Examinations and Evaluation. According to him, hundreds of students in drought-hit areas have received major relief from the decision. Students have also been asked to take note of the concession.
