Gold falls Rs 2,600 to Rs 1,50,000 per 10 grams in Delhi as market reopens after two-day break
Gold fell sharply when the market reopened on Monday, September 28, 2026, with the strong US dollar and worries over US Federal Reserve rate hikes cited as reasons.
Gold prices continue to swing. The market reopened on Monday, September 28, 2026, after a two-day break, and gold recorded a sharp fall as soon as trading began. In Delhi's bullion market, gold became cheaper by Rs 2,600 and came down to Rs 1,50,000 per 10 grams. This price is inclusive of all taxes.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), the futures price of 24-carat gold slid 3.19 per cent, or Rs 4,897, to Rs 1,48,380 per 10 grams by 9 pm. On the previous trading day, it had closed at Rs 1,53,277 per 10 grams.
According to bullion traders' figures, the rate of 24-carat gold is Rs 1,47,260 per 10 grams. In the international market, gold was quoted at Rs 4,155.30 per ounce. Another set of figures put the price of 24-carat gold at Rs 1,50,320 per 10 grams.
According to the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), the morning rates were as follows: 24-carat gold at Rs 1,47,980 per 10 grams, 22-carat gold at Rs 1,35,550, 18-carat gold at Rs 1,10,985 and 14-carat gold at Rs 86,568 per 10 grams.
The price of 24-carat gold today is Rs 1,50,170 per 10 grams in Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, Kolhapur, Jalgaon, Sangli and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar alike. The rate is the same in all eight cities.
The biggest reason cited for the fall is the strengthening of the US dollar. The US Dollar Index, which measures the dollar against six major global currencies, was trading around 101.15. When the dollar strengthens, gold becomes costlier for investors who deal in other currencies, which can put pressure on demand for gold.
Concern that the US Federal Reserve may raise interest rates is also weighing on gold prices. Taken together, these two factors are being cited for the fall seen as soon as the market reopened after the two-day break. The direction of prices ahead will depend on these same two factors.
