Jaysingpur police have arrested four suspects in the murder of Mahesh Bajrang Dalvi (41), who was shot dead in Chandoli Vasti, Danoli, in Shirol taluka. Police had received secret information that the men were hiding in the Hatkanangle area. They laid a trap and took them into custody.

The four were produced in court on Saturday (the 24th), which remanded them to eight days of police custody.

The incident took place on October 19. Dalvi was shot in front of Dhondiram Gurav's house on the road leading from Shivpremi Chowk to Sahyadri Chowk in Chandoli Vasti, Danoli. Two unidentified men on a motorcycle opened fire on him for a reason that is not known, leaving him seriously injured. He died in the incident.

The arrested suspects are Rohit Bhupal Magdum (26, resident of Umalwad), Santosh Bhimrao Koli (27, resident of Chandoli Vasti, Danoli), Anmol Sunil Kare (33, resident of Kothali) and Ashwinkumar alias Hrishikesh Rajendra Bhoi (29, resident of Sangliwadi, Sangli). According to police, the suspects confessed to the crime during initial questioning.

A case was registered at Jaysingpur police station on the complaint of the deceased's brother, Vijay Bajrang Dalvi. Given the seriousness of the crime, special teams were formed to trace the suspects under the supervision of Kolhapur Superintendent of Police Nilotpal and Additional Superintendent of Police Annasaheb Jadhav.

During the investigation, Amol Thakur, sub-divisional police officer of the Jaysingpur division, received word through a secret informer that the suspects were in the Hatkanangle area. Acting on this information, Thakur and his team laid a trap and took the suspects into custody.

The action followed the search by the special teams formed for the investigation. During the eight days of police custody, police will question the four further in the case.
