Fire at North Block near Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi brought under control

A fire broke out suddenly at North Block, near Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi, causing alarm in the surrounding area. Large plumes of smoke were seen rising into the sky. The fire has now been brought under control.

According to the information available, the fire started in an AC boiler on the roof of the building. Welding work was under way on the roof at the time, and a short circuit occurred in one of the boilers. The fire then flared up and the smoke became visible from a long distance.

The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) received a call about the fire at North Block a short while ago. Six fire tenders were dispatched to the spot as soon as the call came in. They reached the site and the fire was brought under control. Fire personnel will now assess the situation at the spot, and more details will be available only after that.

Rajya Sabha member Milind Deora shared a photograph on social media showing smoke rising from behind North Block. Along with the photograph he wrote, "While heading to Parliament, I saw thick smoke rising from behind North Block. It seems there is a fire there." He said he hoped everyone was safe and that emergency services would reach the spot as soon as possible.

A few days earlier, a fire had also broken out on the second floor of the Karkardooma court. No one was injured in that incident. The Delhi Fire Service said it had received the call about that fire at 5:22 am, and eight fire tenders were sent to the spot at once. Firefighters immediately began dousing the flames and stopped them from spreading. The fire was brought under control by 5:50 am.
