The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has inspected the Reliance Smart Bazaar store in Dharashiv, acting on a complaint that customers' health was being put at risk. The administration has taken into its custody samples of the food items the complainant had mentioned.
Food Safety Officer Ganesh Datturao said the store was inspected on the basis of the complaint. Samples of packets of chips, coconut, copra and coconut water were taken. The samples will be tested, and further action on food quality will follow accordingly.
The complaint began with a man falling ill. According to the information available, he suffered stomach pain and vomiting after eating food bought from Smart Bazaar on October 19 and 21. Sushant Vasantrao Bansode of Dharashiv then submitted a written complaint to the Food and Drug Administration on October 22.
The complaint raised questions about the safety of those food items. The FDA took it seriously, inspected the store and took samples of the items linked to the complaint. Whether there is any risk to customers' health, and whether there is any shortcoming in the quality of these items, will now be decided by the sample reports.
With the samples taken, the first stage of the inspection is complete. The laboratory report will now be crucial.
