Teams have begun preparing for the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The question of whether MS Dhoni will play comes up before every season. Dhoni could not take part in IPL 2026 because of an injury, and doubt remains over whether he will play in IPL 2027. Mahendra Singh Dhoni has now spoken about his future himself, making it clear that the decision on playing in IPL 2027 will depend on his fitness.
Dhoni recently attended an event in Bengaluru, where he was asked whether he would be seen playing in IPL 2027. In reply, he said that playing or not playing next season would depend on the doctors. If his test results are good and he stays fit, he will certainly play.
Dhoni said, "Doctor, I will have to get a check-up. You will give me a report, and then I will have to see whether I am fit to play the next season before December. If I am not fully fit, you will have to work on my fitness, so that this old vehicle can run comfortably on the road. All the pressure will be on you."
Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan hopes Dhoni will play the next IPL season. He said Dhoni tells the management before every season whether he is going to play or not.
Viswanathan said, "You will have to ask him this question. I have to talk to him about it. When he comes to Chennai, he will tell us his decision. I feel the opportunity to play for CSK is still there for him. He is still a player."
M.S. Dhoni played his last IPL match in 2025. He last took the field on May 25, 2025, against Gujarat Titans. After that, Dhoni could not take part in IPL 2026. Fans are now eagerly waiting for his return to the team next season.
