The court has stayed the Education Department's action to cancel the recognition of 13 schools run by the Sinhgad Technical Education Society in Pune. At a hearing on Friday, November 6, the court directed that the action be put on hold for now. Deputy Director of Education Machhindranath Kadam gave this information.
Teachers at these schools have not been paid salaries for several months. When they were not paid, the teachers boycotted teaching, which disrupted the children's daily studies. The Education Department's inquiry had also found this.
A hearing in the matter was held on July 20, 2026, before the then Deputy Director of Education. Representatives of the society and Education Department officials put forth their respective positions. The loss of students' education, the teachers' boycott and the failure to resolve the question of salaries were key factors in the decision to cancel recognition.
The society had cited a financial crunch. It claimed that about Rs 10.5 crore in RTE fee reimbursement for the period from 2017 to 2026 is owed to it by the government. The society had also said at the hearing that if this amount were received, the teachers could be paid their salaries.
To ensure that children's education did not suffer if recognition was cancelled, directions had also been given to adjust them in other schools. Now, because of the court's direction, further decisions will be taken only after the court's order.
The secondary schools facing action include Sinhgad College of Arts, Commerce and Science (Narhe), Sinhgad College of Arts, Commerce and Science (Ambegaon), Sinhgad Public School (Khusgaon), R.M.D. Springdale Secondary School (Warje), R.M.D. Springdale Secondary School (Karvenagar-Erandwane) and Sinhgad College of Arts, Commerce and Science (Kondhwa).
The primary schools named are Sinhgad Springdale School (Ambegaon), Sinhgad Springdale Public School (Wadgaon), Sinhgad City School (Kondhwa) and R.M.D. Sinhgad Springdale School (Warje). Action had also been taken against three other schools.
Kadam said the Education Department had acted to cancel the recognition of a total of 13 schools of the society, but the court has directed that it be stayed. Further action will therefore be decided according to the court's next order.
