Political parties have stepped up preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, and seat-sharing talks have heated up in the process. Congress's Uttar Pradesh in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam has made a major claim, saying the party will not contest fewer than 150 seats. According to him, a final decision on seat-sharing between Congress and its allies for the 2027 assembly polls is likely to be made in October.

Gautam said Congress candidates are ready to contest all 403 assembly seats in the state, but the party will not enter the field with fewer than 150 seats. He stressed that within the alliance, Congress will not contest fewer than 150 seats. According to Gautam, "The final decision on seat-sharing is likely to be made in October." He also said Congress is entitled to 50 percent of the seats within the alliance.

Gautam clarified that Congress has been working on seat-sharing in Uttar Pradesh for the past two months. He said Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi, K. C. Venugopal and he himself are overseeing this work. According to the state in-charge, Congress and the Samajwadi Party are the main allies in the INDIA bloc in Uttar Pradesh. The two parties had contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the state as an alliance.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party has also stepped up efforts to strategise for the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and strengthen its organisation. The party will hold a two-day organisational meeting in Mathura on October 3 and 4. The key meeting in the Braj region will be chaired by BJP national president Nitin Navin.

The meeting will discuss the party's poll preparations and organisational strengthening, along with strategy for the upcoming assembly elections. Senior BJP leaders from Uttar Pradesh are expected to attend, along with senior officials from the region. Over the two days, the meeting is expected to discuss the party's organisational standing in the Braj region, ground-level preparedness and ways to improve coordination between state and regional leadership.
