Congress' Abhijit Wanjari leads in Nagpur graduates' constituency count; party workers celebrate early

Congress candidate Abhijit Wanjari is leading in the counting for the Nagpur graduates' constituency of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. Even before the final result, Congress workers began celebrating a win. They also shouted slogans against the BJP, which made the atmosphere tense.

In view of the situation, a heavy police force has been deployed in Nagpur. Police are also present at the counting venue to deal with any untoward situation. The police administration has appealed to workers on both sides to maintain peace and avoid any disturbance. The administration is asking both sides to show restraint.

Congress workers began celebrating, taking a BJP defeat as certain. However, the win will be confirmed only once the final result is officially announced. Until then, it is only a lead.

There are 38 candidates in the fray for the Nagpur graduates' seat, but the main contest is considered to be between the BJP's Sudhakar Kohle and the Congress's Abhijit Wanjari. Wanjari's lead has raised enthusiasm in the Congress camp.

The history of the seat is also being discussed. In 2020, Congress won the seat from the BJP, ending the BJP's long dominance. This time the BJP had set its sights on regaining the seat, but Wanjari is ahead in the counting.

The election is not limited to Nagpur. Votes were cast for three graduates' and two teachers' seats of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, in which a total of 182 candidates are trying their luck. The graduates' seats are Pune, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Nagpur, while the teachers' seats are Amravati and Pune.

For now, all eyes are on the counting in Nagpur. The celebrations by Congress workers and the slogans against the BJP have heated up the political atmosphere, and police are keeping watch on both sides.
