A complaint has surfaced concerning the family of the late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. An organisation called Lawyers for Human Rights International has sought an examination of the mental health and safety of the singer's younger brother. The child is said to be about two and a half years old. The complaint has brought the matter back into discussion.
According to the information available, Navkiran Singh, the organisation's general secretary and a lawyer, filed the complaint on October 17 with the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Mansa and the District Child Protection Unit. The complaint says the mental health of this boy, the son of Sidhu Moosewala's parents, should be examined.
According to the complaint, the opening event of the "Sign to God World Tour" was held in Toronto, Canada, on October 9. The child was brought on stage there. It is alleged that he made gestures resembling firing a gun and produced sounds resembling gunshots. The complaint also refers to some videos that have circulated on social media. The organisation has cited these videos in expressing concern.
The organisation says that repeatedly watching scenes linked to violent acts at a young age can affect a child's development. It has demanded an inquiry into whether such behaviour is being encouraged.
No conclusion has been drawn about the child's mental health in this matter. The organisation's role is limited to asking the officials concerned to take note of the concern raised about his behaviour and investigate.
The complaint also seeks appropriate intervention under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. It further asks that counselling be arranged for the child's parents and that a qualified child counsellor give the guidance needed for the child's well-being.
The complaint also says the Child Welfare Committee should give the matter immediate attention and take suitable steps for the child's safety. The organisation has asked the authorities to also check whether these directions are being followed.
The discussion also has the background of the killing of Sidhu Moosewala. He was shot dead on May 29, 2022, near Jawaharke village in Punjab's Mansa district. His death was a major blow to the world of music. The complaint about the younger brother has now brought the issue of the family's safety and the child's well-being to the fore.
For now, it is not clear what decision the authorities concerned have taken on the complaint, or whether any inquiry has found anything. The organisation has clarified that the main aim of the complaint is to maintain the child's well-being and safety. Its aim is not to get anyone punished or to change the child's custody.
