The state Home Department has given administrative approval to a Rs 136,29,92,433 project to install a modern CCTV system in 18 towns under the Nagpur Rural police.

A modern CCTV system will be installed in 18 towns that fall under the jurisdiction of the Superintendent of Police, Nagpur Rural. The state Home Department has given administrative approval to funds of Rs 136,29,92,433 for the project. The project is said to give a major boost to security in the urban areas of the district.

The initial plan for the project covered only 15 towns. A high-level committee meeting chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) was then held on October 13, 2026, and it decided to add three more towns: Katol, Savner and Wadoda.

In line with that decision, the Superintendent of Police, Nagpur Rural, sent a revised proposal to the government on October 19. The Home Department approved it, clearing the way for a CCTV network in a total of 18 towns.

The towns are Umred, Butibori, Kanhan-Pipri, Ramtek, Narkhed, Kalmeshwar, Khapa, Mowad, Mauda, Bhiwapur, Parseoni, Kuhi, Kandri, Kondhali, Mohpa, Katol, Wadoda and Savner.

The system will make it possible to keep constant watch on key locations in the towns. It will help the police keep crime in public places in check and watch for suspicious activity. If a crime does occur, CCTV footage will make it easier to trace the accused and allow investigations to move faster.

The Superintendent of Police, Nagpur Rural, has been appointed controlling officer for the entire project. The main aim of the initiative is to use modern technology to improve public safety, maintain law and order more effectively and curb crime.

It is hoped that the CCTV project will further strengthen security arrangements in the towns of Nagpur Rural and give the police good technological support in preventing crime.
