BJP launched an agitation backing the proposed AI data centre at Ujani reservoir, while NCP (Sharad Pawar) MLA Rohit Pawar opposes the project.
Politics has heated up in Solapur over the proposed AI data centre at the Ujani reservoir. Rohit Pawar, MLA of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction), has come out against the project. The BJP, on the other side, has started an agitation in support of it. At this agitation, BJP MLA Devendra Kothe made sharp remarks against Rohit Pawar.
Kothe said, "Rohit Pawar is a wolf who cried wolf, and he is putting on a show of concern for farmers' interests." The agitation was led by MLAs Sachin Kalyanshetti and Devendra Kothe. Slogans were also raised against Rohit Pawar during it.
Two camps appear to be forming in Solapur on the issue. The project is being opposed on one side, while the BJP has taken a stand in support of it on the grounds of development.
During the agitation, Kothe also made personal remarks about Rohit Pawar. He alleged that Rohit Pawar is not thinking of farmers' interests and is agitating for his own political ambition. Kothe said, "Rohit Pawar is a stain on Maharashtra's politics. Like the wolf who cried wolf, he is putting on an act and a show of concern for farmers' interests."
Kothe also took on Rohit Pawar over Solapur's development. Using the saying "Abdullah is crazy at someone else's wedding", he said Rohit Pawar is from another district. Kothe also said he should not interfere in Solapur's development projects.
Speaking in support of the project, Kothe claimed it would provide direct and indirect employment to 40,000 to 42,000 people. He also said solar panels account for only 9 per cent of the project, so fishing would not be harmed.
Meanwhile, differing opinions among farmers, local residents and political leaders over the Ujani reservoir project appear to be growing. With the BJP's development claims and Rohit Pawar's opposition, the issue could heat up further in the coming days.
