A fatal attack took place in Badlapur around midnight on Sunday, in which 28-year-old Ganesh Yadav died. His friend Abu Halal Shaikh was also seriously injured and is being treated at a hospital in Badlapur.
According to the information available, Yadav and Shaikh were sitting near the Shiv Sena shakha in the Rameshwadi area on Sunday night when 10 to 12 people gathered there. They attacked the two with an axe, a sickle and other sharp weapons. Yadav succumbed to his injuries.
Police said Yadav had an old dispute going back about two years with the accused, Aman Sing and Abhishek Sing. The preliminary investigation has found that the crime was committed out of lingering resentment over this dispute. This is based on what the investigation has established so far.
Badlapur police registered a case late at night and began action immediately. They have arrested the two main accused, Aman Sing and Abhishek Sing. The remaining accused are absconding and police are searching for them. No details have emerged yet about the names of the absconding accused or the further course of the investigation.
A case had earlier been registered at a police station over the same old dispute. The quarrel said to have led to the killing was already on police record.
Two days before this murder, a young man was also killed in Badlapur. With two such incidents within two days, a question is being raised in the town over whether Badlapur is sliding towards crime.
For now, police are trying to catch the remaining absconding accused. Shaikh's treatment continues at the hospital. Two accused have been arrested, but as 10 to 12 people are said to have been involved in the attack, the remaining men are yet to be identified and arrested.
