A five-match T20 series is being played between India and New Zealand. The second match was played at the Christchurch stadium, and India won the thrilling contest by four wickets.
India won the toss and chose to bowl first, asking New Zealand to bat. The hosts managed only 180 runs in 20 overs. Arshdeep Singh's bowling for India in this innings was outstanding.
Arshdeep took two wickets and, with them, claimed a major record. He is now the Indian bowler with the most wickets in a year in T20 Internationals, overtaking the veteran fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
India's star fast bowler bowled his full four overs in the second T20. He conceded only 33 runs and took two key wickets. With this he broke Bhuvneshwar Kumar's four-year-old record.
Bhuvneshwar took 37 wickets in T20 Internationals in 2022. Arshdeep Singh, who has now moved to the top, has 38 wickets.
Arshdeep also has a golden chance to make history. The world record for the most wickets in a year in T20 cricket is currently held by Ireland's Josh Little, who took 39 wickets in 2022 alone.
If Arshdeep takes even two wickets in the remaining three matches against New Zealand, the record will be his. Given his current form, he could set it in the third T20 itself.
The list of Indian bowlers with the most wickets in a year in T20 Internationals is: Arshdeep Singh 38 wickets (2026), Bhuvneshwar Kumar 37 wickets (2022), Arshdeep Singh 36 wickets (2024), Varun Chakravarthy 36 wickets (2025), Arshdeep Singh 33 wickets (2022) and Axar Patel 32 wickets (2026).
