A 26-year-old man was found dead in a hotel room in Kharadi. He worked on a contract basis at a nationalised bank. Police suspect he shot himself with a country-made pistol. They are also examining whether personal stress, including difficulty in finding a marriage partner, played a part.
The man worked at the bank's Koregaon Bhima branch. He checked into the hotel on October 27 and took a room on the third floor. His stay was to end on October 29. However, he did not respond to repeated attempts to contact him and did not open the door, which made the hotel staff worried.
The staff informed the Kharadi police. Police reached the hotel and entered the room, where the man was lying on the floor. He had a pistol in his hand and a bullet wound on his forehead. His father and brother, whom police called to the hotel, later identified him.
According to officials, the man is said to have sent a message to some friends shortly before the incident. The message indicated that it was his last communication with them. Police are examining the message as part of the investigation.
The investigating officers are also reviewing his personal circumstances. He was unmarried and is said to have been upset because a match was not working out. Police suspect he may have been further distressed because the girl he wanted to marry had married someone else.
Police suspect he took his own life, but the investigation is not complete.
The Kharadi police have registered a case of accidental death (ADR). Further investigation is under way, and police are looking into the incident from all angles.
