Malad police arrested three men after cleaning staff booked through an app allegedly took gold and silver from a woman's home; all the stolen items were recovered.
Many people hire online home cleaning services to prepare their homes for Diwali. For one Mumbai woman, booking such a service has proved costly. The staff who came to clean her home finished the work and left, after which the family noticed that gold and silver jewellery was missing. The incident caused a stir in the area. Malad police investigated and have arrested three people in the case.
The 52-year-old woman, who lives in Malad West, booked the home cleaning service through the Home Triangle app on October 26, 2026, for Diwali cleaning. As scheduled, four employees of the company came to her house. They completed the cleaning and left.
Some time after the staff left, the family could not find the gold and silver jewellery kept in a cupboard in the bedroom. A search of the house made it clear that it had been stolen. The missing items included a 50-gram gold necklace, a 10-gram gold mangalsutra, a gold biscuit and a 500-gram silver brick. The stolen goods are said to be worth about Rs 12 lakh.
The woman then went to Malad police station and filed a complaint. Police began the investigation on the basis of technical information. Suspicion grew against the staff who had come for the cleaning through the Home Triangle app. The investigation also showed that the accused repeatedly kept their mobile phones switched off. Police began tracing them with the help of technical information and other inquiries.
Police stepped up the investigation and searched areas including Nalasopara, Vasai, Palghar and Boisar. Satyam Rajesh Shukla (26), Anish Brijbhushan Chaurasia (18) and Pawan Omprakash Dhiwar, alias Rahul Gaud (26), were first detained and then arrested.
Police have recovered 100 per cent of the stolen property from the accused. All the woman's stolen jewellery and valuables have been returned to her.
