Delays on Mumbai's local trains had a direct effect at Dadar station, where the evening crowd grew so large that both boarding and alighting became difficult for passengers.
A reporter boarded a train at CSMT at about 7.30 pm and reached Dadar at 7.46 pm. Platform 9A was so crowded that people were seen trying to climb into the train even as it was coming in at considerable speed. Passengers getting off at Dadar had barely five seconds to alight, as a crowd of impatient passengers pushed into the coach.
A passenger who got off at Dadar said, "I regret boarding this train. I had two bags and one got stuck in the door as I was getting off. The other passengers trying to board the same coach began abusing me. The train was 20 minutes late. One sees this on normal days too, but this was the effect of the delay early in the day."
A college student heading to Churchgate said, "A local from Ambernath to CSMT had reached Thane at 10.50 am. It stood for an hour and a half between Mulund and Nahur. The train left Thane at 11.05 am and later got stuck between stations."
The student claimed there was no announcement inside the train about what lay ahead, so passengers had no idea what was happening.
Meanwhile, a man died while crossing the tracks at Bhandup station. He was trying to catch a train. The deceased is Sahil Thite. He had stepped down from platform number 4 to catch a train from platform number 3.
