Mumbai International Airport Limited said runways 09/27 and 14/32 at CSMIA will be shut for six hours under its annual post-monsoon maintenance programme.
Both runways at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will remain closed for six hours on November 19. The closure is part of the airport's annual post-monsoon maintenance programme.
Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), the company that operates the airport, said runways 09/27 and 14/32 will not be operational from 11 am to 5 pm (IST) that day.
According to MIAL, the closure is part of an annual plan to ensure runway safety, reliable operations and compliance with global aviation standards. The runways will be inspected closely and the surface will be repaired. Technical assessments of runway lighting, markings and the drainage system will also be carried out. The airport operator said the maintenance is an essential part of year-round operational readiness.
MIAL also said a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) for the closure has already been issued. This will allow airlines and other stakeholders to adjust their flight schedules and staff planning accordingly.
The airport operator said coordination with airlines and stakeholders began six months before the scheduled maintenance. The aim of this advance preparation is to align operational requirements and keep inconvenience to passengers to a minimum. CSMIA said the maintenance reflects its emphasis on safe and efficient airside operations.
MIAL is a joint venture of Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI), with AAHL holding a 74 per cent stake. AAHL is a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Limited, the flagship company of the Adani Group. MIAL is responsible for operating and modernising CSMIA in Mumbai.
CSMIA has a history of more than 90 years. It spreads over 1,900 acres and has a cross-runway configuration. The airport operator describes it as the world's busiest single-runway airport, with about 1,000 air traffic movements every day. According to the information provided, 55.29 million passengers travelled through the airport in the financial year 2025-26. It is also a hub for export-import and logistics, and its air cargo terminal handles more than 0.85 million metric tonnes of cargo every year.
CSMIA also said it received Level 5 accreditation for airport customer experience from Airports Council International in December 2024. It is the first airport in India and the third in the world to receive the recognition.
