The tournament has two main categories, junior and open, with matches in a total of 12 events across both. The junior category includes singles and doubles for boys and girls under 17 and under 19. The tournament is being organised by Bombay Gymkhana under the guidance of the Greater Mumbai Badminton Association (GMBA) and the Maharashtra Badminton Association (MBA). Yonex and Sunrise are the equipment partners, while Badminton Gurukul is the event promoter.
Speaking about the tournament, Shailesh Daga, honorary secretary of Bombay Gymkhana, said, "We are happy to host the Maharashtra Open state-level badminton tournament at Bombay Gymkhana. The participation of players in both the junior and open categories shows the enthusiasm for badminton. This is a good opportunity for players to experience the tournament and prove their ability. We are eager to welcome all the players and officials."
Bombay Gymkhana president Sanjiv Saran also expressed confidence in the tournament. He said sport is an integral part of the legacy of Bombay Gymkhana. He said hosting a state-level tournament would contribute to the growth of badminton and inspire young players to look at the sport competitively. He added that he was happy to welcome players from across Maharashtra and was confident the tournament would be a success.
