Sindewahi (Chandrapur): A leopard spread panic near Ramala village in Sindewahi tehsil on Sunday morning. It was captured after an effort of about an hour. A farmer and a forest department employee were injured in the process.
The incident took place on the morning of Sunday, October 18, 2026. The leopard had been lying in wait very close to the village, beside a road used by commuters, and people were fearful for some time. Residents of Ramala breathed a sigh of relief once it was captured.
According to the information available, Devidas Ramaji Bansod, a 55-year-old farmer from Ramala, had gone towards his field on Sunday morning as usual. The leopard, hiding near the village, suddenly attacked him. Bansod was seriously injured in the attack.
The news spread quickly through the village and villagers were alarmed. The leopard's presence on a road that villagers and vehicles use constantly had become a serious question for people's safety.
On receiving information, teams of the forest department and the police reached the spot immediately. The forest department promptly launched a rescue operation to capture the leopard. During the operation, however, the leopard, by now aggressive, also attacked a forest department employee, who was injured.
Despite the difficult situation, the rescue team continued its work and captured the leopard safe and sound at about 10 am.
For safety, traffic on the Sindewahi-Wasera road was stopped for some time during the rescue. The road has reopened after the leopard's capture. Farmer Devidas Bansod and the injured forest employee are being treated at a hospital.
The administration has appealed to people not to crowd to see the leopard and to stay alert, as the presence of wild animals near a village can be dangerous to life.
