Preparations for Diwali have picked up pace, and attention now turns to the day of Lakshmi Puja. Homes are about to fill with the glow of diyas, rangoli and the bustle of festive cooking. In Hinduism, worship of Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ganesha and Kubera Dev on Diwali is considered especially significant.

According to religious belief, performing Lakshmi Puja on this day by the proper rites brings happiness and prosperity to the home, increases wealth and grain, and helps remove financial obstacles. This is the faith. It is therefore important to know which day Diwali falls on this year, what the auspicious time for Lakshmi Puja is and how the worship is to be done.

According to the Hindu Panchang, Diwali is observed on Kartik Amavasya. This year the Kartik Amavasya tithi begins at 11.27 am on November 8 and lasts until 12.31 pm on November 9. For this reason, Diwali will be celebrated on Sunday, November 8, 2026.

The auspicious time for Lakshmi Puja is from 5.54 pm to 7.50 pm. During this period, family members should sit together and worship Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ganesha and Kubera Dev.

All the materials should be kept ready in one place before the puja begins. These include idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha, a puja chowki, red cloth, roli, kumkum, sandalwood paste, akshat, paan, betel nut, panchamrit, coconut and Ganga jal. A kalash, mango leaves, mauli and janeu should also be kept. Arrange flowers, fruit, durva grass, incense, camphor, diyas and cotton wicks as well. Before the puja, clean the entire house and the place of worship. Then decorate the house with diyas and coloured electric lights. Set up the chowki and spread a clean cloth on it. Place idols or pictures of Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ganesha and Kubera Dev on the chowki.

Next, light a ghee or oil lamp before the deities, remember Lord Ganesha and begin the puja. During the worship, offer roli, akshat, flowers, fruit, incense, lamp and sweets. Then worship Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi by the proper rites. Mantras of Goddess Lakshmi can also be chanted at this time.

At the end of the puja, perform the aarti of all the gods and goddesses. After the aarti, pray for the happiness and prosperity of the family, a happy life and economic progress. In this way, the joy of the festival can be celebrated by performing Lakshmi Puja with devotion in the auspicious time of Diwali.
