A meeting ended the sugarcane rate agitation by Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana and other groups, with Rs 3,900 paid upfront and Rs 100 more after the mills close.
He said he had already given a detailed interview on Gokul the previous day and would therefore say nothing more on it. The Chief Minister had entrusted him with ending the sugarcane price agitation by the Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana and other organisations. After returning from Mumbai the previous day, a meeting lasting three to four hours was held. It was decided there to pay Rs 3,900 as a one-time advance and Rs 100 after the mills finish their season.
The meeting also decided that if sugar sells above Rs 4,500 over the year, a further Rs 200 will be paid. If prices go beyond that, a 70:30 formula will be worked out across the table.
He thanked all farmers' organisations, especially Raju Shetti, who accepted the arrangement. He thanked everyone for arriving at a respectable solution. He said traffic was jammed for three to four days during Diwali and many people were stranded, and he sincerely thanked them for cooperating so that their Diwali too could be sweet.
