Kavya Maran, owner of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team and executive director of the Sun Group, will soon marry popular South Indian music composer Anirudh Ravichander. Against this backdrop, there is talk about how much education she has had.

Kavya is the only daughter of Sun Group founder Kalanithi Maran. She was born in Chennai on November 3, 1991. The Maran family is considered extremely powerful in both business and politics. Her mother, Kaveri Maran, is CEO of the Sun TV Network and is counted among the highest-paid women executives in the country. Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi is Kavya's great-grandfather, and former Union Minister Murasoli Maran is her grandfather.

On her education, after school Kavya took a BCom degree from Stella Maris College in Chennai. She went abroad for further studies and completed an MBA at Warwick Business School in the United Kingdom. This solid educational foundation serves her well in managing the Sun Group's media and sports divisions.

At Warwick Business School, she gained proficiency in international business, leadership and strategic management. She got real global exposure there. She is said to have special training in understanding market uncertainty and leading a team through difficult times. This is evident in her leadership of Sunrisers and in her player auction strategy.

Kavya is currently executive director of the Sun TV Network. She has full responsibility for the group's sports division, that is, SRH, Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Sunrisers Leeds. She is counted among India's youngest women achievers. Her personal wealth is said to be more than Rs 400 crore, while her family's total empire is worth more than Rs 19,000 crore.

Many people see Kavya only as an heir to the Sun Group, but her real strength is her education. Having studied management in the UK, she has a modern outlook. There she learnt how to make proper use of new technology and data in a business run in the old way. That is why, whether in the IPL or South Africa's SA20 league, her approach to picking players and running teams appears highly professional and measured.
