The railway administration has sent a notice to residents of Atish Khan Compound in the Sindicate area of Kalyan West, asking them to vacate their homes. The notice has left the families asking where they will live.

The residents claim they have lived at the same place for 70 years. They say they have stayed in this compound all these years. The Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) has come forward to support them. Ravi Patil, the party's Kalyan city chief, held a press conference with local residents and put forward their case.

At the press conference, the residents set out their position. They said they do not oppose development, but those affected by development works must get fair compensation. Their expectation is only that those affected get justice.

According to the residents, a court case over the land was on in 2023 and the verdict went in their favour. Even so, the railway administration has now issued a notice to vacate the houses. They fear they may lose the roof over their heads, and the question of shelter now confronts them.

The residents, who have lived in the area for many decades, have asked the government and the railway administration to rehabilitate them and to provide alternative homes to the affected families. Their main demand is that alternative homes be made available to them.

The press conference expressed the hope that the government and the railway administration would take the residents' demands seriously. It was also stated that a solution is needed on the rehabilitation of the affected families, the availability of alternative homes and clarity on the present status of the court case.

The residents thus find themselves between a railway notice on one side and a claim of 70 years of residence on the other. While saying they do not oppose development, they have stressed fair compensation, rehabilitation and alternative homes.

Residents of Atish Khan Compound are now watching what stand the railway administration and the authorities concerned take on these demands.
