The Israeli army has carried out a large explosion in Zawtar al-Sharqiyah village in Nabatieh district of south Lebanon, where its operations have not stopped. The incident has created an atmosphere of fear in the area. Tension persists in several villages of south Lebanon because of Israeli attacks and blasts.

The Israeli army had earlier carried out large-scale blasts in the Zawtar al-Sharqiyah area as well. The Lebanese army had said earlier that the village's municipality building, a government school, a health centre, a child care centre and several residential houses had been damaged. The operations have made the safety of local people a serious concern.

Besides Nabatieh district, Israeli military activity has also increased in the Tyre and Bint Jbeil areas of south Lebanon. Air strikes and artillery shelling have taken place in some areas, along with blasts in houses. Military vehicles are also reported to be moving in villages close to the border.

The operations are deepening a sense of insecurity among local people. Many families have had to leave their homes and property and move to safer places.

Efforts are under way for a ceasefire and security arrangements to reduce tension between Lebanon and Israel. Even so, Israeli army operations in south Lebanon have not ended. The Lebanese army had said earlier that the attacks are making it difficult for it to step up its deployment in the southern part of the country.

The latest blast in Zawtar al-Sharqiyah has brought the situation in south Lebanon into focus once again. Full details of the total damage in the incident and which building was targeted have not yet emerged.
