Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra, was released on November 5, 2026. It is being described as the costliest and grandest film in Indian cinema so far, with a total budget put at about Rs 4,000 crore. Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash, Sunny Deol and Lara Dutta are among the well-known actors playing various mythological characters.
The actors playing Lord Ram, Ravana and Mata Sita are accomplished performers. The question is who among them is the most educated. One is a doctor, one has studied engineering and one learnt method acting abroad. Here is a look at their qualifications in real life.
Ranbir Kapoor plays the lead role of Lord Ram. He completed his early schooling at Bombay Scottish School in Mumbai, then did his pre-university studies at the well-known HR College of Commerce and Economics. Drawn to creative work, he moved to New York, where he learnt the finer points of filmmaking and method acting at the School of Visual Arts. He is reportedly being paid a fee of Rs 150 crore for the two parts of the film. Ranbir is the first boy in his family to study this much.
Sai Pallavi, who plays Mata Sita, is a popular South Indian actress and also a doctor by profession. She studied medicine at Tbilisi State Medical University in Georgia and earned an MBBS degree. She then returned to India and passed the FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination). She could have chosen a full-time medical career, but took up acting.
Yash, a superstar of Kannada cinema, plays Lankapati Ravana. He did his early schooling at Mahajana High School in Mysuru and studied further at SBRR Mahajana Pre-University College. He does not hold a degree from a major university. Even so, the place he has made in the industry through hard work and powerful dialogue delivery is no less than any big degree.
Ravi Dubey has built his own identity from television to OTT and films. He plays Lord Ram's younger brother Lakshman. In his studies he stayed on the technical side, earning a B.Tech in telecom engineering from Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology in Mumbai. He came into the entertainment world after his engineering degree.
Lara Dutta will be seen as Mata Kaikeyi, wife of King Dasharatha. She did her schooling at St Francis Xavier Girls' High School in Bengaluru and Frank Anthony Public School. She then took a degree in economics from the University of Mumbai, with communication as her minor subject. Lara, who won the Miss Universe title in 2000, knows several languages and has a strong command of English and Hindi.
Sunny Deol is seen as the mighty Hanuman. He did his early schooling at Sacred Heart Boys' High School in Mumbai, then graduated in commerce from Ramniranjan Anandilal Podar College of Commerce and Economics in Mumbai. He also went to England to learn acting, taking professional training in theatre and stage performance at the Old Rep Theatre in Birmingham. That is why his English and screen presence have always been effective.
