The body of a 40-year-old farmer was found in the office of a private finance company in Nanded, causing alarm in the area. The deceased is Chandrakant Shinde. He was reportedly brought to the company's office to recover a loan of just Rs 10,000. Shinde's family has since made serious allegations against the finance company's employees. Police have registered a case of suspicious death and begun an investigation.

The issue of loan recovery from farmers battling drought and financial distress in the state has flared up again. The Nanded incident has come to light amid that debate.

According to the information available, Shinde lived in Malkautha village in Nanded district. He owned 2 acres of farmland. When he needed money, he had taken a loan of Rs 10,000 from a private finance company called K F Enterprises.

It is said that company employees brought him from the village to the office on Wednesday to recover the loan. On Thursday, Shinde's body was found hanging in the company's office. As the news spread, tension gripped the entire area.

After Shinde's death, his family has levelled grave allegations against the finance company's employees. Relatives allege that he was locked in the office and beaten for loan recovery, and that the body was then hung to give the death a different colour.

These allegations have not yet been proved. An investigation is under way into the circumstances of the farmer's death. The postmortem report and other evidence are expected to provide key information.

On receiving news of the incident, police reached the spot and drew up a panchnama. A case of suspicious death has been registered, and the probe continues to establish the actual cause of death. The postmortem report will help clarify the circumstances behind the death. Questioning to establish what actually happened from the time the farmer was brought to the office for loan recovery until his body was found will also be important.

Finance companies must follow the rules when recovering loans from farmers hit by drought and hardship. The case has brought the question of recovery methods and the safety of farmers back into discussion.

The cause of Shinde's death is not yet clear. Whether the family's allegations are true will be determined only by the investigation. All eyes are now on the police probe, the postmortem report and further action. Shinde is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. The death of the family's breadwinner has plunged them into grief.
