Corporator Sunil Pande has demanded that both the tricolour and the saffron flag be flown permanently at the residence of the mayor of the Pune Municipal Corporation. He wants the flags to be put up with due respect, and has submitted a memorandum to the mayor on the matter.

In the memorandum, Pande has requested that the necessary action be taken in compliance with the relevant administrative rules. He insists that the framework of rules be followed while hoisting the flags. The demand has brought the question of flying both flags at the mayor's residence into discussion.

The mayor's residence is the official residence of the first citizen of Pune, and the building therefore carries special significance for the honour and dignity of the city. Pande has said in the memorandum that if both flags are flown there permanently, it will underline Pune's historical, cultural and patriotic traditions.

Pande has noted that the tricolour, the national flag of India, is a symbol of the country's pride, freedom, unity and national identity. The saffron flag is linked to Indian cultural traditions and the spirit of valour and sacrifice, and is also regarded as a symbol of the inspiration behind Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's Swarajya.

Pune has a historical heritage and a rich cultural tradition, and has a special bond with the history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's Swarajya. He wants both flags flown at the mayor's residence to uphold the honour of this historical tradition of the city.

Pande has also made clear that the relevant administrative rules should be followed while considering the demand to fly both flags permanently and with respect. He has requested that the mayor and the Pune Municipal Corporation administration take the necessary action, keeping in mind the seriousness of the demand.

All eyes are now on what stand the mayor and the municipal administration take on the demand and what is decided next.
