Mizoram batter Chinmay Sutar has made history in the Ranji Trophy. In a Plate Group match against Nagaland, he played an unbeaten innings of 400. He is the second batter to score 400 in an innings in the history of the Ranji Trophy.
The match was played at the Sovima ground in Dimapur. Batting first, Mizoram declared their first innings at 581 for nine. Sutar's innings was the backbone of the big total. He faced 517 balls and hit 46 fours and seven sixes. He remained not out on 400.
With the innings, Sutar showed his batting skill under pressure and also put his name in the records of Indian domestic cricket. Earlier, Maharashtra's B. B. Nimbalkar scored an unbeaten 443 for Maharashtra against Kathiawar in the 1948-49 season.
Sutar was born in Mumbai. He has been playing cricket since the age of five. His father, Rajesh Sutar, is also a well-known cricketer. He played many big innings for Mumbai and now works as a coach. In 1998, Rajesh Sutar opened the innings with Sachin Tendulkar. In that match at the Cricket Club of India, Mumbai beat Australia. Rajesh Sutar himself trained his son in the early years.
Sutar was part of the Mumbai team until the start of this year. Before the current season, he decided to play for Mizoram.
Sutar had made his debut for Mizoram in the recent match against Manipur, played from October 11 to 14. In the second innings of that match he scored 35 and 99, missing a century by just one run. Against Nagaland, he made up for it with 400.
