The State Intelligence Department has replaced businessman Rana Suryavanshi's Y-plus cover with a single gunman a few weeks after he was attacked with a machete in Baramati.
The State Intelligence Department (SID) has withdrawn the Y-plus security given to businessman Rana Suryavanshi. He was attacked with a machete in Baramati last month. Only one gunman has now been assigned to protect him. The order was issued by the SID's Inspector General of Police.
Suryavanshi lives in Magarpatta City in Pune's Hadapsar area. The order to remove his special security was issued by Prashant Amritkar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Branch, Pune Police.
The State Intelligence Department had ordered Y-plus security for him on February 17, 2026. He owns a shipping company and also has businesses in Gadchiroli. He had earlier been attacked in Akkalkot in Solapur district in September 2025, and the security cover was given to him only after that.
On the evening of October 18, Suryavanshi was attacked again, in the Gojubavi area of Baramati. Assailants on a motorcycle rushed at him with a machete. Pune Rural Police have begun an investigation. Two people, including a minor, have been taken into custody in this connection.
When police went through CCTV footage from the spot, people close to Suryavanshi were seen in the recording. After this, three of his close friends absconded. Police have so far not been able to trace their whereabouts.
State Director General of Police Sadanand Date reviewed the investigation. During the review it emerged that the policemen deployed for Suryavanshi's security were from other districts. None of them was from the Pune city police. The matter has now been handed over to Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Nikhil Gupta.
Thus, within a few weeks of the attack, the nature of Suryavanshi's security has changed. A single gunman will now accompany him in place of the Y-plus cover, while the investigation into the Baramati attack is still on and the search for the three friends continues.
