PM Modi extends Diwali greetings to the nation in a message on X
Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished people across the country happiness, good health and prosperity on Diwali, and said he will celebrate with the armed forces.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday extended Diwali greetings to people across the country. He wished everyone happiness, good health and prosperity on the festival of lights.
Modi shared his message on the social media platform X and greeted those celebrating the festival across the country. He wrote, "Diwali greetings to all! Endless Diwali greetings to my family members across the country."
The message came as people across the country celebrated Diwali with traditional enthusiasm. Homes, streets and public places were decked with earthen lamps, decorative lights and colourful decorations.
A day earlier, on Saturday, Modi had also greeted citizens in a video message titled "Have a Great Diwali". In the same video, he said he planned to celebrate the festival with armed forces personnel this time, as he has done in previous years.
In the video, Modi said, "The whole country is lit up on Diwali. This festival of light symbolises our resolve against darkness."
He added, "May this festival bring happiness, good health and prosperity to everyone. Like all of you, I too celebrate this festival with full enthusiasm. As every year, this time too I will celebrate Diwali with our brave defence personnel. Once again, greetings to all of you on Diwali."
Celebrating Diwali with defence personnel has been the Prime Minister's annual practice. Through these visits, he has been appreciating the service and dedication of the personnel deployed to defend the country, including those posted away from their families during festivals.
On the eve of Diwali, Modi met Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan, and the two exchanged Diwali greetings. The Vice-President's office shared details of the meeting on X. It said, "Vice-President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan warmly welcomed Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at the Vice-President's Enclave today and exchanged Deepavali greetings."
This year, Diwali is being celebrated on Sunday, November 8, on Kartik Amavasya. Homes and temples have been decorated with earthen lamps and decorative lights, and families are celebrating together. In the evening, devotees perform the traditional worship of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi and seek blessings for happiness, peace and prosperity.
The festival also includes lighting lamps, bursting firecrackers, sharing sweets and spending time with family and friends. Celebrated across regions and communities, Diwali reflects traditions linked to light, hope, mutual bonding and the victory of good over evil.
