Finolex Cables Limited on Monday announced the launch of its Magnex 7.5 kA switchgear family, a new range of circuit protection products meant for both homes and commercial use. The launch widens the company's fast-moving electrical goods (FMEG) portfolio. The company said the range builds on Finolex's long experience in the electrical industry and has been designed around the changing needs of present-day customers.

The Magnex family includes miniature circuit breakers (MCBs), isolators and distribution boxes. The company is also introducing a new range of accessories, which includes MCB changeover switches and rotary selector switches.

Mahesh Viswanathan, chief executive officer of Finolex Cables Limited, said: "Our Magnex 7.5 kA switchgear range reflects our continued commitment to technological innovation and customer-centric solutions. As power needs change, customers are looking more for products that combine reliable safety, performance and good looks. Through Magnex, we want to give customers more confidence along with safety, and further strengthen our commitment to quality and excellence. This is another step in our journey to shape the future of modern lifestyles through reliable and innovative electrical solutions."

Finolex entered the switchgear segment in 2016. Its products are made at the company's state-of-the-art plant in Roorkee. The new Magnex 7.5 kA family fills the gap between the 6 kA and 10 kA products and offers retail customers higher breaking capacity, better safety and more value.

Amit Mathur, president, sales and marketing, Finolex Cables Limited, said on the launch: "The Magnex 7.5 kA family reflects our commitment to building electrical solutions that match customers' changing needs. By offering reliable safety, high performance and modern design together at a competitive price, we want to strengthen our FMEG portfolio. Drawing on our large network of 5,000 channel partners and more than 2,15,000 retailers, we want to reach a wide section of customers."

The range has copper and silver-inlay contacts to keep contact performance reliable. Thermal plus magnetic tripping is provided to respond to overloads and short circuits. A finger-safe terminal design keeps the terminals safe to touch, high endurance is built in for a long service life, and reversible line/load terminals give flexibility during installation.

The optimised breaking capacity of the range is 7.5 kA, in line with IEC 60898-1 and IS/IEC 60898-1. This means the MCBs can safely interrupt prospective fault currents within their rated limits. Energy limitation class 3 keeps the let-through energy low during a short circuit, which reduces thermal and mechanical stress on cables and connected equipment.

The thermal and magnetic tripping systems act on prolonged overloads and on short circuits, respectively. For installers, Biconnect terminals and line-load reversibility make connections quick and easy, while laser marking provides durable identification and traceability. The company says this mix of working design and practical features makes the range ideal for both home and commercial electrical installations.
