The Mumbai Municipal Corporation has prepared development works worth Rs 5.71 crore for Khandoba hill in Ghatkopar West, an area known for its historical identity. The aim is to let residents of the hill area move around safely and to improve basic amenities.

The process of selecting a contractor for the works is complete. The proposal will soon be placed before the standing committee for final approval. Under the project, started by the civic body's N ward, cement concrete internal roads will be built to ease traffic in the area.

New storm-water drains will be built so that water drains properly during the monsoon. Because the area is hilly, there is a risk of rocks or soil giving way. To prevent this, strong retaining walls will be built wherever needed. Safety nets will also be installed at places.

The target is to complete the entire project in six months, including the monsoon days. The proposal to appoint the contractor will be presented to the standing committee for approval. Work on the ground will begin as soon as the committee gives its go-ahead.

The civic body ran an e-tender process for the project. Six companies took part. Three were disqualified for failing to complete their documents, while three were found technically qualified.

The financial bids were then examined. The scrutiny found that M/s S. K. Mahalingam Construction had quoted 3.33 per cent below the civic body's estimated rate. For this reason, the work has been recommended for award to this company.
